Shorter Days Post Chile Earthquake
A scientist at NASA reckons the Earth’s axis has been shifted due to the 8.8 magnitude that hit Chile recently. The devastating disaster caused more than 700 deaths already, with hundreds of thousands of people left homeless.

Richard Gross, a research scientist at NASA’s Jet
Propulsion Laboratory in California, has calculated the quake’s force shifted the axis buy around 8cm, causing the days to shorten by about 1.26 microseconds. The earthquake that triggered tsunamis off Indonesia in 2006 shifted the axis by 7cm, causing a shortening of 6.8 microseconds.

Shorter days? Holy shit mate… there aren’t enough hours in it already! This is going to have a very interesting result a few years from now once the 1.2’s add up…
